Clinical Fluidity: A Study in Balanced Inclusive Design
Located in South Melbourne, this Aesthetics clinic was designed to challenge the traditional sterility of clinical environments. The brief called for a gender-neutral sanctuary that remains uncompromisingly professional in performance while offering a refined, grounding experience for a diverse clientele. By pairing a disciplined architectural layout with tactile, organic textures and warm timber tones, the design achieves a "softened precision"—an atmosphere that feels technically advanced yet deeply welcoming.
A core pillar of the project was the sustainable integration of previously made existing joinery belonging to the client's previous clinic, seamlessly embedding these pieces into a modern, high-functioning footprint. This adaptive reuse, combined with a rigorous approach to DDA compliance and inclusive spatial planning, ensured the clinic is both operationally efficient and accessible to all.
The floor plan was surgically engineered to prioritise patient privacy and practitioner flow. Each bespoke treatment room is individually programmed for specific medical purposes, balancing ergonomically optimised treatment benches with integrated consultation desk space. Anchored by a sculptural product display counter and a fluid, circular reception terminal, the result is a thriving, future-proofed business that successfully balances increased patient capacity with a calm, sophisticated aesthetic.
