The Art of Interior Refinement
Newlands is a study in the transformative power of 'Soft Architecture.
Tasked with refreshing a traditional residence, the project focused on the sophisticated layering of materiality and tone to modernise the home's interior life. By meticulously refinishing the architectural timber and introducing a curated landscape of textiles and bespoke furniture, we elevated the sensory experience of the spaces while honouring their original heritage proportions.
The design process involved a deep technical commitment to architectural refinishing, where we directed the restoration and tonal refinement of existing timber elements to align the home's heritage bones with a contemporary aesthetic. This was complemented by meticulous textural mapping, featuring a comprehensive palette of high-end carpeting and textiles selected for their acoustic properties and tactile contribution to the room’s volume.
To define the function and flow of each space, we curated a selection of bespoke and iconic furniture pieces to act as "loose architecture," ensuring every room felt both structured and inviting. The final result is a study in atmospheric toning, utilising a strategic colour and material palette to maximise natural light and establish a cohesive "Quiet Luxury" narrative that resonates throughout the entire home.
